Plants are Wise. Our teacher, Candelaria Xitamul, Spoke to them as “hermanas plantas” (sister plants).
In Mayan Cosmology, the plants, the trees, the flowers, the mountains, the rocks – everything that springs form Mother Earth – Are considered our siblings. We are part of nature, and when we spend too much time in society, we often absorb emotions, thoughts, and energies, that don’t belongs to us. The sister plants remind us who we truly are. They return us to our natural state, our autenthicity.
Plants carry the wisdom and information of mother Earth. They ground us, hold space for us, and cleanse us, across the cultures of north and South America, and especially in our main culture, plant baths have been used for cleansing, renewal, and for opening or closing life cycles. They are ceremonies of fabrication, preparing us to release what no longer serves us and to step into something new.
From the stories of our grandmothers, we know that it was the midwife or a person has “special work” (the one that does extraordinary offerings” who worked most closely with the plant they are called Curanderos (healers) who know how to listen to the plants and choose the right medicine for every situation.
Plants have always played an essential role in life threshold. After a woman receives her first bath in the Temazcal and with healing plants. Babies too are welcomed into life by being a bath with plants, receiving protection, and blessings of mother Earth.
Beyond these rites, plant baths are used for renewal, to mark the closing of one cycle and the beginning of another. They are remedies for swollen limbs, open wounds, fractures, and bruises. Mother Nature is our first and most complete pharmacy energetically and physically.
That is why, if you feel called, we invite you to step into the circles of the plant baths. Allow them to cleanse you, to help you to release, to help you open. Join us in our plant baths circles, where we let go, give thanks and accept the process of transformation together.
